Factory Reset (SDR)
Before you begin, it is crucial to read and follow all safety instructions. Ensuring your safety and the proper operation of this equipment is our top priority. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the safety guidelines provided. Your adherence to these instructions will help prevent accidents and ensure a smooth and efficient setup.
If your meloki appliance is currently running a Debian 13-based installation, a one-time reinstallation using the provided SDR USB stick is required.
This ensures that the appliance is migrated to the current software platform and remains eligible for future updates and support.
After the reinstallation is complete, you can restore your existing backup and continue working normally.
Factory Resetβ
This guide describes how to restore a meloki appliance to its factory default state using the provided recovery media.
Each meloki appliance is shipped with a dedicated Secure Disaster Recovery (SDR) USB stick. The SDR stick contains an automated recovery environment that reinstalls the appliance without requiring manual intervention.
The restore process can be used in the following scenarios:
- Recovery after a system failure
- Reinstallation of the appliance
- Returning the appliance to factory defaults
- Preparing the appliance for a backup restore
The restore process reinstalls the appliance and resets it to its factory default state.
Ensure that all required backups are available before starting the recovery process.
About the SDR USB Stickβ
The Secure Disaster Recovery (SDR) USB stick is delivered together with every meloki appliance.
The SDR process is fully automated and performs the following tasks:
- Reinstallation of the operating system
- Reinstallation of DOMOS
- Reinstallation of meloki components
- Reset of the appliance to factory defaults
No manual interaction is required during the installation process.

The log file contains detailed information about the recovery process and can be used to verify that the installation completed successfully.
Completing the Restoreβ
After a successful restore:
- Power off the appliance.
- Remove the SDR USB stick.
- Power on the appliance again.
The appliance is now restored to its factory default state.
Restoring Your Backupβ
After the appliance has been restored successfully, you can proceed with restoring a previously created backup.
Refer to the Backup & Restore section of the meloki documentation for detailed restore instructions.
Updating the SDR USB Stickβ
The SDR USB stick contains an AppliPACK, which includes the software packages that are installed during the factory reset process.
New software releases are distributed through updated AppliPACKs. Before performing a factory reset, we recommend ensuring that your SDR USB stick contains the latest available AppliPACK version.
Downloading a New AppliPACKβ
The latest AppliPACK versions are available from:
https://www.secudos.de/downloads
Download the appropriate AppliPACK for your appliance.
Updating the SDR USB Stickβ
After downloading the new AppliPACK:
- Connect the SDR USB stick to your workstation.
- Copy the new AppliPACK file onto the SDR USB stick.
- Replace the existing file named:
applipack.sdr
The filename must remain exactly:
applipack.sdr
Do not rename the file to any other name.
After replacing the file, the SDR USB stick will automatically use the new software version during the next factory reset process.
We recommend checking for newer AppliPACK versions before performing a factory reset to ensure that the appliance is installed with the latest available software.
